From September 4 to 6, the organization for Career Development at Sookmyung Women’s University hosted the job fair ‘Dream Festival’. Unlike last year, the fair added an extra day to its agenda, so it lasted three days instead of two, and over thirty companies participated in the fair. The fair event had four separate sections, and they were job counseling, employment policy counseling, special lectures regarding employment, and an event booth. All counseling and the event booth were carried out along the Queen Sunheon crossroad. Various company incumbents came to the university, and they included Webzen, for IT and YG for entertainment. Students could freely visit the booths and get advice about careers and jobs of interest. Kim Yulim, Department of Economics ’16, who visited the booth for finance, said, “Since I’m at the time in my life when I need to prepare for employment, I have considered various roads. Even though most of the information I received today was something I already knew, I learnt that I could opt for a plan B or C if I failed to obtain my Plan A job.” At the employment policy counseling booth, counselors from various organizations such as Yongsan Gu Office provided students with valuable information on the current state of Korea’s employment policy. At the event booth, students were able to beautify themselves with new hairstyles and take ID photos. Five special lectures were held at the Samsung Convention Center. Participants could obtain useful information from experts in the fields such as Kim Taewon, Director of Google Korea. Choi Sunghee, Director of the Office of Employment Support said, “I think the biggest worry among university students is career planning and future employment. I hope Dream Festival is the springboard for Sookmyungians that helps to make their dreams come true.” Even though the idea of gaining employment is a topic that causes much anxiety among students, the fair was great opportunity to learn much needed information that will help Sookmyungains with their careers.
